Using the Data Grids

Data grids are used throughout the iFig Reader application. They are used to represent related data in a tabular format.

A data grid is made up of rows:

and columns:

A data grid also has a column header section that displays the type of data rendered within its column:

Data grid filtering.

Some data grids allow their records to be filtered. If a data grid has a funnel icon located in the column header, it supports record filtering.

To filter a data grid, first click the funnel icon. A drop down similar to the one below is displayed.

Then, select one of the entries in the drop down display. The data grid is then automatically filtered and will only show records meeting the criteria that you specified.

You can tell if a filter is "ON" if the funnel icon is filled with the color BLUE. You can turn a filter off by clicking on the funnel icon and selecting "ALL" from the drop down display.

Data grid aggregations.

Some column headers also display a summation icon. These columns allow you to tell iFig Reader to perform aggregations on all records in the data grid.

Clicking on the icon brings up a "Select Summaries" dialog box.

The values that you select are then displayed at the bottom of the data grid.

Data grid sorting.

All columns in a data grid can be sorted in either descending or ascending order. To sort on a column, simply click the column header. To change the sorting from ascending to descending, simply click the column header again. When a column is sorted, a triangle icon is displayed in the column header. The triangle icon will be rendered with the point side up if the sort is ascending (see the NIIN column below)

and with the point side down if the sort is descending (again, see the NIIN column below).
