Configure the Update Utility

Before you can use the iFig Catalog Update Utility, you must tell it where to find the 3 FedLog CDs and the folder where the FedSrch.dll file can be located (normally CD number 4 - but can be any accessible folder).

You do this by clicking on the FedLog Paths tab.

And then clicking on the File Open button next to each CD label.

Navigate to the path of the appropriate CD using the "FedLog File Locator" dialog box and click on any file within the folder, then click the "Open" button.

The path will be placed in the appropriate text box for you. The utility will save and remember your settings. When new CDs are obtained in subsequent months, you simply have to place them in the same location as you previously specified.

If the first 3 paths are properly entered, the utility will search for the FedSrch.dll file within the iFig Reader application directory to determine if it is compatible with the 3 FedLog CDs. If the dll file is not compatible with the 3 CDs, or it is not found in the application directory, it will attempt to copy the latest dll file from the path specified in "CD 4" to the iFig Reader application directory.

If the utility cannot find the FedSrch.dll file within the folder (or any of the sub-folders) specified in CD 4, or if the file copied is not compatible with the 3 FedLog CDs, you will be presented with the following error message.

If you see this error message, click on the File Open button next to the CD 4 text box and navigate to the folder where the FedSrch.dll file can be located - then click the File Open button. The utility will continue to validate the FedSearch.dll file each time you specify a CD 4 path until it validates that the dll file is compatible with the 3 FedLog CDs.

If the dll file is compatible with the 3 CDs, the utility will be ready to start and the utility will display a "Ready to update Catalog" label.

You are now ready to update the catalog.
